Why is Dancing Good for Men? How it Save Men’s Lives

Dance is more than just a fun way to express your individuality. It’s also been proven to be helpful in improving your physical and mental health. For example, a study published in the journal Archives of Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine showed that participating in a dance program for seniors can help boost their immune systems, flexibility, balance, and functional independence.

The researchers from the University of Nevada found that participants who participated in the six-month program had significant increases in functional independence. They declined in depressive symptoms when compared with the participants who didn’t participate. Moreover, these positive results were observed as early as after the program’s first week.

Study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that men who regularly participated in aerobic exercise activities such as running or dancing experienced significantly lower mortality rates than men who didn’t exercise. It’s important to keep in mind that this was only an observational study. There could have been other factors affecting these results as well.

Why Dance is Good for Men

“The Bee Gees said it best- you should be dancing,” said lead author Daphna Merom, Associate Professor of Science and Health at the University of Western Sydney. The study, published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, is the first to look at the effects of dancing on heart disease mortality. She found that those who participated in dancing had a 46% lower risk of cardiovascular death over the 10-year period than those who seldom or never danced.

Dance can help improve your coordination and flexibility, which can help you get around and around the house with ease and confidence. Research suggests that men who regularly participate in dance activities like salsa, jazz dance, or ballroom dance sessions also experience significant improvements in their balance, strength, and cardiovascular fitness. The dance will also help you with weight loss and get in better shape as you age.

Societal stereotypes against masculinity have led some fathers and family members to undervalue their friends’ dancing skills. Leading them to forget about participating in group dances like salsa or merengue. However, these seemingly insignificant activities could have life-changing effects on these men’s health. Continue reading to learn more about how dance is helping healthy men live longer lives.

Dance Programs for Improving Flexibility in Men

Flexibility is one of those “hidden” health benefits that you don’t realize you’re missing out on until you start incorporating regular dance programs into your life. It’s crucial for many daily activities, like sleeping, bathing, and sitting down for long periods. Luckily, dance is a fantastic way to improve your flexibility. You will become more limber and increase your range of motion.  This will reduce your risk of developing certain health conditions, like arthritis and heart disease.

Dance Programs for Improving Balance and Coordination

As we age, we become more prone to falls and injuries. The risk of a fall increases by 30% for every decade you add to your age. Fortunately, dance can help reduce this risk by improving your balance and coordination. Participating in dance programs like hip-hop dance classes,  jazz dance, salsa, or tango regularly can help you build new muscle connections in your body, which can help you maintain better balance as you get older. You’ll also see improvements in your athletic performance, which can reduce your risk of injury.

Dance Programs to Boost Men’s Physical and Mental Health

Dance is a fantastic way to improve your physical health and mental wellness. With age, your muscles become less flexible, causing them to become stiffer. This can lead to issues like osteoporosis, which causes your bones to become weaker and more prone to breaks and fractures. Regular exercise can help reduce your risk of osteoporosis by increasing your muscle flexibility. Another important physical health benefit of dance is that it can reduce the risk of heart disease.  People who regularly participate in aerobic activities like dancing have a substantially decreased risk of coronary artery disease. A condition that causes blood pressure to go up in the arteries surrounding the heart.

Benefits of Dance for Men

Strengthens Your Heart Health: Improving your balance and coordination with dance can help you build stronger cardiovascular fitness. This is crucial as you age because it can help lower your blood pressure. Lowering your pressure risk of developing heart disease.

Strengthening Your Bones: Aerobic exercises like running and dancing can help you build stronger bones by increasing your bone density. This is especially advantageous for those who battle osteoporosis, a condition that weakens bones.

Improving Your Athletic Performance: Dance is a great way to improve your athletic performance because it can help men to improve their balance and coordination.

Strengthening Your Core Muscles:  The most important benefit of dance is that it can help men strengthen their hearts and lungs, which are essential for breathing. If you stop dancing, you may find that your breathing becomes impaired.

Perfect partnership:  An excellent way to bond with your partner is to take dance classes and have an interesting first date. Dance transcends personal, physical, and conversational barriers. You’ll soon find yourself dating someone head-on before even thinking about having confidence. Have confidence in your dance steps if you want to break the ice with someone. Confidence is the perfect base for grabbing someone’s attention and asking, “Would you like to dance?”.

Summing Up

There’s no denying that dancing is an incredible way to improve your health, both physically and mentally. It can help you build strength and flexibility, reduce your risk of injury, and improve your athletic performance. The only question is, do you have the patience to try it out? Consider it a positive challenge because once you get into the rhythm of it, you might find that participating in dance classes is as addictive as it is rewarding.
